About this event

The Somerset Cyber Challenge Launch Event aims to encourage teachers and industry representatives from Somerset to work together to build school-based STEM clubs that can enter teams in to the 2020 CyberFirst Girls Competition

The CyberFirst Girls competition is run annually by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) and aims to provide a fun but challenging environment to encourage and inspire the next generation of young women to consider computer science as an option, with a view to a future career in cyber security. The competition is aimed at Year 8 girls.

The Somerset Cyber Challenge encourages Somerset secondary schools to develop a STEM club with members capable of taking part in the competition. This means that the STEM club should include enough year 8 girls to enter at least one team in to the competition (4 girls per team), but aside from this, the club can be about anything and include anyone!

To encourage participation from schools in Somerset, the STEM Ambassador Hub West England are providing a further incentive of £100 towards a STEM Club and £150 towards STEM Learning teacher CPD for the top 8 participating schools that complete the January online round of the competition.

For teachers, technicians and other school staff - this event will provide you with an opportunity to meet local STEM Ambassadors interested in helping build a STEM club in your school that can enter teams in to the CyberFirst Girls Competition*. The industry representatives could be available to visit your school and provide additional support and information on cyber careers to your students.

For STEM Ambassadors and industry representatives - this event will give you the opportunity to network and create relationships with local schools. If you are interested in giving your time and enthusiasm to participating schools and students to inspire the next generation of computer scientists then look no further!

Light refreshments will be provided. This event is FREE to attend.
